Das Projekt „faces of truth“ (fot) dokumentiert die emotionalen Expressionen von Freiwilligen, welche sich dabei filmen lassen, während sie Aufnahmen aus der Intensivtierhaltung (Hauptsächlich für die Produktion von tierischen Lebensmitteln) vorgespielt bekommen. Die Aufnahmen, welche den Freiwilligen gezeigt werden stammen bis auf eine einzige Aufnahme aus Deutschland und zeigen die üblichen Zustände sowohl in Mastbetrieben, auf Schlachthöfen, als auch in Deutschland praktizierte Tierversuche und Eindrücke von internationalen Pelzfarmen.
Die Idee des Projektes entstand aus der Erfahrung, dass Menschen dazu neigen, schlimme und brutale Bilder, mit denen sie im Bereich Social Media konfrontiert werden wegzuklicken und zu vermeiden. Facebook selber stuft Aufnahmen aus Schlachthöfen und Mastbetrieben ebenfalls als „Gewaltdarstellung und explizite Inhalte“ ein und warnt den Nutzer sogar vor dem Inhalt, obwohl die Aufnahmen den Alltag für hunderttausende Tiere weltweit aufzeigen. Eine Resonanz auf Bild und Videomaterial, Artikel, Berichte und Petitionen dieser direkten und konfrontativen Art in denen die schreckliche Wahrheit ungefiltert aufgezeigt wird, bleibt im Bereich des Social Media fast gänzlich aus.
The project „faces of truth“ (fot) documents the emotional expressions of volunteers, who are being filmed while watching video footage of industrial farming (mainly for the production of animal based foods) The footage shown to them was, except for one, taken in Germany and show the common conditions in factory farms, slaughterhouses as well as animal testing procedures in germany and situations on international fur farms.
The Idea for the project came up from having made the experience that people tend to avoid and scroll on over intense and brutal images that they get confronted with on social media. Facebook themselves also categorizes feedlot and slaughterhouse footage as „content that could shock, offend and upset“ and warns the user before watching it, although it shows the common daily life conditions for hundred thousands of farm animals every day. There is little to no response in social media to photo and video footage, articles, reports and petitions in these direct and confronting ways that they show the unfiltered truth.
Warum ist das so?
Menschen verbinden mit dem Bereich Social Media Lifestyle, Spaß, eine Art Leichtigkeit. Inhalte ihres Alltags, selten Probleme oder gar „schwere Kost“. Zusätzlich sitzt jeder meist isoliert vor seinem Screen, Laptop, Tablet oder Smartphone und taucht alleine in die Social Media Tiefen ab. Die völlige Isolation, alleine auf sich gestellt. Eine Konfrontation mit schmerzlichen Bildern und Videos ist in dieser Situation schwer erträglich und auszuhalten. Es gibt niemanden mit dem man sich direkt über das Gesehene austauschen kann und niemanden der einem Fragen beantwortet und beisteht, man ist hilflos. Genau an diesem Punkt setzen das Projekt FoT an. Die Menschen werden auf ihrer Reise zur Wahrheit begleitet und dabei gefilmt. Auf dem finalen Video ist kein einziger Tropfen Blut und kein einziger Ausschnitt des Bildmaterials, welches den Freiwilligen gezeigt wird zu sehen. Die Gesichter und Aussagen der Freiwilligen sprechen für sich. Why is that?
People see social media as lifestyle, fun and something light and easy. Daily life content that rarely is difficult or heavy. On top of that, most of the time people consume social media alone in front of their laptops, tablets or smartphones where they dive down into the depths of it in complete isolation. Confronting painful images in a situation like that is hardly bearable because there is no one to talk to about what you have seen, no one to answer your questions, you feel helpless. This is exactly where the project FoT wants to draw on. People will be taken on a journey to the truth while being filmed. The final video doesn’t show a single drop of blood, neither any of the footage the volunteers get to watch. Their faces and quotes speak for themselves. I invite you to go on this journey with us.
